Auction will be conducted by Fred Reger Auctions at our facility at 10100 Richmond Highway, Lorton, VA 22079.  Please arrive 15-30 minutes early to register. Davey’s Ride 6 Benefiting Hope for Warriors is tomorrow! | Woodbridge, VA

The motorcycle ride starts at 14631 Minnieville Road in Woodbridge, VA .

Registration will start at 9:00 am and the motorcycles go out at 11:00 am. All proceeds go to Hope for the Warriors.

Focus on Boating in Northern Virginia | Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge

In the first installment of our series focusing on opportunities for boating enthusiasts in Northern Virginia, we Gateway Storage Center Boat Parkingtake a look at Leesylvania State Park located in Woodbridge, about nine miles south from Gateway Storage’s Lorton facility.

Opened in 1992, Leesylvania State Park is built upon land donated by Daniel Ludwig in the late seventies.  The park stretches out over almost 550 acres on a peninsula that borders the Potomac River, Neabsco Creek and Powell’s Creek.

Even though the park’s convenient location in southeast Prince William County is only twenty-five miles from Washington, DC, Leesylvania park is sometimes considered to be in the shadow of it’s big sister, Lake Anna.  Still, the park’s popular boat launch into the Potomac for power boats and a cartop launch for canoes and kayaks into Powell’s creek offers area boaters convenient access to the waterways.  The park also features a 300′ accessible fishing pier.

Leesylvania is open April through October during daylight hours (overnight boating and pier fishing is allowed in March and November as well). More comforts for boaters include restroom facilities with showers, a snack bar with sandwiches and ice cream, gas station, a marine store with a boat pump out station, and plenty of trailer parking.

you’re planning to get your boat of storage for the first time and head out on the Potomac River, check out these tips from Fairfax County Fire & Rescue for safe boating and watercraft operation.  Safety patrols will be out on the river all weekend.

  • Don’t drink and boat. Boating while intoxicated is just as dangerous as drinking and driving. The “designated driver” system doesn’t work in boating. Everyone is at risk because the boat’s motion, coupled with alcohol, increases the chances of losing balance and falling overboard.
  • Everyone on the boat should wear a Coast Guard approved personal flotation device or life jacket. It’s the best protection against drowning.
  • Check the weather and water conditions before leaving the shore. If it looks like storms are brewing or the water is very choppy, wait for another day to go boating.

Parking Information for the Lake Ridge MayDay 5k Race this Sunday

To enjoy our sponsors’ booths and fun activities, we recommend that you arrive between 6:45 and 7:30 a.m.  Additionally, please remember to pick up your timing ankle chips at our timing booth.
  • There will be no parking in the LRPRA parking lot or on the west side (the side closest to the parking lot) of Oakwood Drive between Old Bridge Road and Woodfern Court.  Please park on the east side of Oakwood Drive, on Woodfern Court, or on any of the cul-de-sacs nearby.
  • All participants must complete the course as marshaled and policed.  A failure to comply with the outlined course will result in a disqualification. (It is particularly tempting for children to turn around early on Antietam).
  • For safety purposes, we ask that you remain on the right side of the road at all times and on the sidewalk where possible.
  • Bibs must be worn on the front of the participant’s shirt where fully visible by the timing committee.
